Illustration – A Sunday in Hell

The passing of the spring… means a season for the spring classics is over. I wanted do something for the sport I love. I created a illustration which was inspired by the movie which got me interested in this sport. A Sunday in Hell is a 1976 documentary film directed by Jørgen Leth. It follows 1976 Paris-Roubaix

Paris–Roubaix or the Queen of the spring classics is the most famous and the most dramatic of the spring classics. Riders have ride over narrow, cobbled tracks that choke with dust on dry days and become slick and muddy in rain. For the riders it is a challenge to keep going without puncturing or crashing, but for us spectators it is a true drama.

I wanted to show different bikes and colorful jerseys in simple way. Also wanted to represent the famous riders such as Eddy Merckx (Molteni), Roger De Vlaeminck (Brooklyn), Freddy Maertens ( Flandria), and Francesco Moser (Filotex – in Italian Champion) and their team jerseys.
